Rodkicker Type 05S is recommended for masthead rigged yachts with a displacement of max 3,9 tonnes and fractional rigged yachts up to 2,5 tonnes. 058-036-05 does not include a gas spring so the main purpose with this rigid vang is to facilitate sail handling when reefing, preventing the boom from dropping into the cockpit or onto the coach roof. It also doubles the purchase of your kicking strap. Kicking strap is not included. It can easily be upgraded with a gas spring if required. When fitted with a Seldén gas spring, it lifts the boom when the kicking strap is released. Excellent for trimming the main in light air.  The right size of Rodkicker, and correct spring force, is determined by the displacement of the boat, the righting moment at 30° heel angle, the boom height above deck, the length of the boom (E-measurement) and whether the mast is of conventional type or a furling mast. While hydraulic vangs are often preferred for this size of yacht, the traditional design of a manual Rodkicker offers benefits due to its straightforward installation process.   Adding control lines accessible from both sides enables crew members on the windward side to quickly release the vang and avoid broaching. This is made possible by the new inboard ends featuring purchase sheaves allowing for flexible rigging.   The vang features a 4:1 cascade system in Dyneema® core so if a 4:1 tackle is added, the overall purchase increases to 16:1. The unit generates a return force of 10,000N, utilising two Seldén gas springs, each rated at 5,000N.

This is a relatively new concept when it comes to kickers. It originates from sailing dinghies, and keelboat classes like Laser SB3, where it allows more space for the crew to move underneath the boom, close to the mast. As the Gnav is fitted above the boom it is out of the way and you will experience a huge gain in cockpit space.  A Gnav is a fixed aluminium compression strut fitted between a hinged or fixed fitting on the aft side of the mast and a slider in the sail groove of the boom. The sail must be loose footed as the sail groove is occupied by the Gnav slider. A strap from the slider is lead down to the cockpit. When the strap is tensioned, the slider moves forward and the boom is pushed down. Release the strap and the mainsail will lift the boom.

Fast and convenient adjustment of the main trim functions is vital both for the racing sailor and for the cruising sailor. Just being able to tension the forestay and adjust the halyard  tension and outhaul will make any boat point higher, sail faster and under better control. Seldén has developed a range of hydraulic cylinders that are easy to use and of a quality  that ensures long service life. The rods are marine grade stainless steel and the cylinders black anodized or clear anodized aluminium. The tensioners have long stroke making it possible to try out different mast rakes. The control panels are available for single function  or 4-functions and feature an adjustable relief valve to prevent overload.
