Which Furling System Is Right for Your Yacht?

Choosing the correct furler involves more than yacht length alone. Important factors include:

• forestay wire or rod diameter;
• forestay length;
• clevis pin and attachment dimensions;
• sail area and expected sailing loads;
• available space around the stem fitting;
• whether the drum should be above or below deck;
• manual, electric or hydraulic operation; and
• compatibility with the existing forestay and standing rigging.
