Seldén Furlex 404S is the large-yacht model in the fourth-generation Furlex range, designed for 12 mm or 14 mm forestay wire and typically used on yachts of approximately 40–60 ft.
Selectable kits cover forestay lengths from 17.70 m to 22.50 m, with standard Sta-Lok terminals and integrated rigging-screw options depending on wire diameter and length.
For a replacement Furlex, complete forestay or new installation, our rigging team can help confirm the correct 404S configuration before ordering.

The Furlex 404S is intended for substantial cruising and performance yachts using 12 mm or 14 mm stainless-steel forestay wire. Seldén places the 404S broadly in the 40–60 ft yacht range.
Because installations at this size carry significant forestay loads, the system should be selected from the actual rig specification rather than yacht length alone. Wire diameter, finished forestay length, lower-terminal articulation and available adjustment all need to be confirmed.
| Forestay Wire | Maximum Forestay Length | Standard Sta-Lok | Sta-Lok + Rigging Screw |
|---|---|---|---|
| 12 mm | 17.70 m | 052-038-51 | 052-038-61 |
| 20.10 m | 052-038-52 | 052-038-62 | |
| 22.50 m | 052-038-53 | 052-038-63 | |
| 14 mm | 20.10 m | Contact us | 052-038-64 |
| 22.50 m | 052-038-55 | 052-038-65 |
The 14 mm × 20.10 m standard-terminal configuration is not currently selectable through this product. If that specification is required, please contact us before ordering.
The standard 404S kits use a Sta-Lok mechanical terminal. The supplied forestay wire is cut to the required finished length and assembled into the lower terminal during installation.
Where offered, the alternative kit incorporates a rigging screw within the Furlex lower assembly. This provides adjustment of forestay length and mast rake while retaining the integrated Furlex installation.
On larger rigs it is particularly important that the lower attachment has the correct articulation and that the forestay is not forced to accommodate misalignment at the bow fitting.
If replacing an existing furling system, record the present forestay wire diameter and finished pin-to-pin length before dismantling the old stay. The lower clevis-pin size, terminal arrangement and tack position should also be checked.
A 12 mm installation can be supplied in maximum wire lengths of 17.70 m, 20.10 m or 22.50 m. The 14 mm systems use 20.10 m or 22.50 m maximum forestay lengths.
The maximum supplied length is not necessarily the yacht's finished forestay length. The new wire is cut and terminated to suit the individual rig.
The 404S uses Seldén's twin-groove aluminium luff extrusion, allowing conventional headsail hoisting and sail changes. The Furlex assembly rotates around the structural forestay while the stay itself remains fixed.
The 404S halyard swivel uses stainless-steel bearing components, and the sail attachment arrangement centres the load through the swivel. Correct halyard lead and forestay setup remain important for reliable furling and to minimise the risk of halyard wrap.
If the yacht uses a smaller forestay, compare the Seldén Furlex 104S, 204S, 304S and 404S range. The 404S is specifically the 12 mm / 14 mm wire model in this group.
Martin Leaning Masts & Rigging can help specify a replacement from existing rig measurements, yacht information or the removed forestay. Contact our rigging team if you would like the configuration checked before ordering.
