A replacement-mast quotation is only as good as the information used to build it. Accurate measurements and clear photographs allow the new spar to preserve the important rig geometry and interfaces of the existing installation.
Core measurements and information
Overall mast length
Record the full spar length and state clearly whether the mast is deck-stepped or keel-stepped.
Mast section
Measure fore-and-aft section length and athwartships width, and record the mast ID where available.
Stay attachment heights
Record the locations and types of forestay, backstay, shroud and intermediate attachment points.
Spreader geometry
Record the number of spreaders, spreader lengths, sweep and attachment arrangement.
Boom & gooseneck
Measure gooseneck position and photograph the boom, vang/kicker and mainsail interfaces.
Photographic record
Take full-length and detailed photographs before dismantling. Include a scale in close-ups where practical.
Deck-stepped and keel-stepped masts
For a keel-stepped mast, include the below-deck length, partners location, mast step and deck-seal/chocking arrangement. For a deck-stepped mast, document the heel casting and deck step.
Rig dimensions
If reliable sail-plan or rig dimensions are available, include them. Do not substitute a generic yacht-model specification for measured information where the boat may have been modified or re-rigged.

- Mast ID and section markings.
- Masthead.
- Each spreader root and tip.
- Stay and shroud attachments.
