Its lightweight, low stretch and high strength making it an ideal rope for the replacement of steel wire. Strength for strength, D12 78 is 8 times lighter than an equivalent steel wire rope and exhibits none of the drawbacks with steel such as corrosion, wire splits and dangerous recoil in the case of system failure. D12 78 has Marlow's ArmourCoat coating as standard which increases abrasion resistance and its coefficient of friction. However, Marlow also have a range of coatings to tackle issues such as flex fatigue and heat generation.

For sailors looking for the ultimate combination of strength, lightness, and performance, Marlow's D12 Dyneema is a game-changer. As halyards play a crucial role in sail control, choosing the right material can significantly impact efficiency and reliability at sea. Here’s why D12 Dyneema stands out as a top-tier choice for sailors.
One of the primary benefits of D12 Dyneema is its unmatched strength-to-weight ratio. Made from Dyneema® SK78 fibers, this rope offers high tensile strength while remaining incredibly lightweight. For cruising yachts, this means easier handling, reduced mast weight, and improved sail performance.
Halyard stretch can be a major concern when maintaining optimal sail shape. Unlike polyester ropes, D12 Dyneema has near-zero stretch, allowing for precise tension control even in varying wind conditions. This consistency ensures that sails remain properly trimmed, enhancing both speed and efficiency.
Cruising exposes ropes to UV radiation, saltwater, and abrasion, all of which can degrade performance over time. Marlow’s D12 Dyneema is treated with a protective coating to withstand harsh marine environments, ensuring longevity and reliability. Additionally, its high resistance to creep makes it an ideal choice for load-sensitive applications like halyards.
For sailors who prefer custom rigging solutions, D12 Dyneema is easily spliceable, allowing for neat terminations and secure connections. Whether used as a halyard, sheet, or control line, its adaptability and efficiency make it a favored choice among experienced cruisers.
If you’re searching for a high-performance halyard that offers exceptional strength, minimal stretch, and outstanding durability, Marlow’s D12 Dyneema is a top contender. Designed for modern cruising yachts, it delivers reliability and efficiency for both coastal voyages and offshore adventures. Investing in D12 Dyneema ensures your sailing experience remains smooth, safe, and optimized.
