Upgrading Furlex 304S to 304E: Electric Precision for Confident Cruising

If your yacht is equipped with the Furlex 304S, you already benefit from Seldén’s robust manual furling system designed for boats up to 15 tonnes displacement. But when sailing short-handed, managing heavy headsails, or simply seeking modern convenience, upgrading to the Furlex 304E offers a transformative leap in control, safety, and ease.

The 304E retrofit brings push-button furling to your foredeck—without changing your sail or forestay setup.

🔧 What Does the Upgrade Involve?

Upgrading from the 304S to the 304E is a modular retrofit. You retain your existing foil extrusion and forestay. The upgrade replaces the manual drum and line guard with an electric motor unit and control system.

✅ Components Replaced:

  • Manual furling drum
  • Furling line and line guard
  • Tack assembly

✅ Components Added:

  • Electric motor unit (48V drive)
  • DC/DC converter (for 12V or 24V systems)
  • Control pack (Genoa, Cutter, or SEL-Bus integration)
  • Optional SEL-Bus network for advanced control and diagnostics

No sail recutting is required—the luff length remains unchanged.

⚙️ Key Features of the Furlex 304E

  • Push-button operation from the cockpit
  • Two-speed motor for precision reefing or fast furling
  • Low power consumption with sleep mode when idle
  • Corrosion-resistant composite motor housing
  • Compatible with Sta-Lok or swaged terminals
  • Available for forestay diameters of 8 mm or 10 mm
  • Retrofit-ready for Furlex 304S or 304TD systems (1997–present)
