Electric Furling Systems from Selden

Electric FurlingSAILING BY PUSHING A BUTTON

Once you have experienced using a Furlex you will not want anything else up front. Jib furling is all about convenient sail handling from the safety of your cockpit and with the Furlex Electric a new dimension is added – ease of use.

The MkII version of Furlex Electric, launched 2018, is a compact and weather proof aid to handle your foresail and smart enough to understand how much power to use. It works fast or slow at your command, it consumes a minimum of your power supply and it’s built to last. Lean back and let Furlex Electric do the hard work.

All the power you need Furlex Electric is available as a complete kit or as an upgrade kit for an existing of the third generation (200S-400S) or the fourth generation (204S-404S). The push-button function of a Furlex Electric makes pulling on the furling line a thing of the past.

Reliable performance

Furlex Electric is designed around a highly efficient 42V electric motor. A DC/DC converter (PSU, Power Supply Unit) converts the boat’s 12V or 24V to 42V which allows for thin cables to the motor unit, easy installation and a compact unit design. Power is transmitted to a self-locking worm gear to rotate the luff extrusion at a max torque of 60Nm (204E), 90Nm (304E) and 135Nm (404E). These high torque levels mean that you can always rely on being able to furl your foresail – even when the wind and sea are doing their worst.

In the event of power failure, the sail is simple to furl manually. An emergency line-driver system is included as standard and can be used for both on-deck and through-deck installations. An emergency handle with ½” socket is available as an option.

If you need any help choosing the right electric upgrade for your boat please get in touch and one of our rigging experts can advise you. We recommend these systems are fitted by professional riggers and sailmakers.

Furlex 204E - Electric Furler

The new Furlex 204E and 304E, designed for yachts in the 30’-45’ range, feature a durable composite outer shell and a highly efficient 48V electric motor. The DC/DC control box converts the boat’s 12V or 24V to 48V which allows for streamlined cables to the motor unit, easy installation and a compact design. The push-button function of the Furlex Electric makes pulling on a furling line a thing of the past. You can now also adjust the speed at which the sail is furled with the new two speed function. An attractive, labour saving addition to any foredeck. Similar to previous Furlex models, the standard kit requires that the wire is cut to length and fixed with a ‘Sta-lok’ mechanical wire locking system. A completely integrated rigging screw is offered as an option. It allows for adjustment of the forestay length without altering the height of the tack attachment.  You can choose the type of termination, either Standard Sta-lok Terminal, Sta-lok Terminal & Rigging Screw or a Swaged Terminal. If you need any help choosing the right Furlex please get in touch and one of our rigging experts can advise you.
