Bronze, like stainless steel, is very strong and highly resistant to corrosion. By making the body of the rigging screw in chrome plated aluminium bronze and the terminals in high grade marine stainless steel the risk of the thread seizing up under heavy loads is reduced. A design feature which gives you a product that performs better and lasts even longer.

This Rigging Screw has a stud at one end to connect to wire, and a Stemball at the other end. Check the wire, thread and Stemball sizes are correct for your requirements.

The Stud/Stemball Selden Rigging Screw: A Comprehensive Guide

Introduction

The Stud/Stemball Selden Rigging Screw is a high-performance component used in marine rigging, offering superior durability, corrosion resistance, and precise tensioning capabilities. Manufactured by Selden, a leading name in sailing hardware, this rigging screw is designed to withstand extreme loads while ensuring long-term reliability.

Material and Construction

The body of the rigging screw is made from chrome-plated aluminum bronze, a material known for its exceptional strength and resistance to corrosion. The stud terminal and stemball end are crafted from high-grade marine stainless steel, ensuring robustness and longevity. This combination minimizes the risk of thread seizure under heavy loads, a common issue with all-stainless steel rigging screws.

Design Features

  • Stud/Stemball Configuration: One end features a stud terminal, designed to connect to wire, while the other end has a stemball fitting, allowing for secure attachment.

  • Adjustable Length: The screw allows for precise tensioning, with minimum and maximum lengths varying by size.

  • Breaking Load Capacity: Ranges from 1,550 kg to 9,500 kg, depending on the thread and stemball size.

  • Thread and Stemball Sizes: Available in multiple configurations, including 1/4" (9mm, 11mm), 5/16" (9mm, 11mm, 14mm), 3/8" (11mm, 14mm), 7/16" (11mm, 14mm), 1/2" (11mm, 14mm), and 5/8" (14mm).

Advantages Over Stainless Steel Rigging Screws

Unlike traditional all-stainless steel rigging screws, the bronze/stainless combination offers several advantages:

  • Reduced Risk of Seizing: Stainless steel threads can seize under heavy loads due to galling. The bronze body mitigates this issue.

  • Enhanced Corrosion Resistance: Bronze is highly resistant to marine corrosion, making it ideal for long-term use.

  • Improved Longevity: The combination of materials ensures a longer lifespan compared to standard stainless steel screws.

Applications

The Stud/Stemball Selden Rigging Screw is widely used in:

  • Sailing Yachts: Essential for tensioning standing rigging.

  • Architectural Rigging: Used in structural applications requiring high load-bearing capacity.

  • Industrial Use: Suitable for heavy-duty tensioning in various engineering fields.

Conclusion

The Stud/Stemball Selden Rigging Screw is a superior choice for marine and industrial rigging applications. Its bronze/stainless steel construction, high load capacity, and adjustable length make it a reliable and durable solution for demanding environments. Whether for sailing, architecture, or industrial use, this rigging screw ensures optimal performance and longevity.
