The fourth generation of Furlex is an uncompromising evolution of the world’s best selling jib furling and reefing system. Proven design blended with innovation is our way to maintain the iconic heritage of Furlex.
The halyard swivel for Furlex 404S features ball bearings and ball bearing races made from marine grade stainless steel, just like any other Furlex model since 1983. Low furling resistance, low maintenance and long life.
Furlex, as in previous generations, comes as a complete kit including all parts needed for reliable and convenient furling of the foresail. It even includes a new forestay wire, furling line, stanchion lead blocks, a halyard lead and a prefeeder. A simple purchase.
Similar to previous Furlex models, the standard kit requires that the wire is cut to length and fixed with a ‘Sta-lok’ mechanical wire locking system. A completely integrated rigging screw is offered as an option. It allows for adjustment of the forestay length without altering the height of the tack attachment. You can choose the Forestay Diameter, Max. Length and the type of termination, either Standard Sta-lok terminal or a Sta-lok terminal & rigging screw.

When your yacht is built for ocean crossings, high latitudes, or serious offshore racing, your gear needs to be uncompromising. The Furlex 404S is Seldén’s top-tier manual furling system, designed for yachts up to 65 feet and 20 tonnes displacement. It’s the largest model in the Furlex S-series, engineered to deliver smooth furling, precise sail control, and rugged durability in the harshest conditions.
The 404S uses multiple sets of stainless steel ball bearings and roller bearings within the drum and swivel. This ensures low friction and high load capacity, even under extreme tension.
Like its smaller siblings, the 404S features a twin-groove foil, allowing for fast sail changes or twin headsail setups—ideal for downwind passages with poled-out genoas.
An integrated rigging screw allows precise forestay adjustment without altering tack height. This is essential for tuning mast rake and optimizing sail shape on large yachts.
The split drum design ensures even furling line distribution, reducing jams and friction. The line guide keeps the furling line neatly coiled and easy to handle.
The system includes insulated joining sleeves and composite connectors to minimize galvanic corrosion—critical for long-term reliability in saltwater environments.

The Furlex 404S is delivered as a complete installation kit, including:
Installation is typically done by professional riggers due to the size and load requirements, but the system is designed for straightforward setup and long-term serviceability.
The 404S is built to handle high loads and heavy sails with ease. Sailors report smooth furling even in strong winds, with minimal effort required from the cockpit. The robust construction and low-friction bearings make it ideal for short-handed crews, liveaboard cruisers, and offshore racers.
Its ability to maintain sail shape while reefed is a standout feature—especially important when sailing upwind in heavy weather.
The Furlex 404S is best suited for:
The Furlex 404S is the culmination of Seldén’s decades of innovation in furling systems. It’s not just big—it’s smart, efficient, and built to last. For sailors who demand absolute reliability and performance from their gear, the 404S delivers peace of mind and precision handling in any condition.
